If you’ve been experiencing trouble accessing the Real Estate Assessment Center Technical Assistance Center (REAC-TAC) system over the past few weeks, you’re not alone — and there’s finally good news.

HUD Multifamily has officially acknowledged the limited accessibility issues that have been impacting the REAC-TAC system and has provided important guidance for owners and auditors working to meet the *March 31 Annual Financial Statement filing deadline* through HUD’s Financial Assessment Sub System (FASS).

What Happened?

In recent weeks, the REAC-TAC system experienced intermittent accessibility issues that made it difficult for users to reset passwords and log into the FASS system. For owners and auditors racing to meet the end-of-March filing deadline, the timing was less than ideal.

What’s Been Fixed?

HUD has confirmed that:

  • All previously inactive accounts have been reactivated.
  • Passwords have been reset system-wide.

Owners and auditors should now be able to follow the standard password reset process to regain access to the FASS system without needing to contact support.

*Heads up: If you recently reset your password during the period of system issues, you may need to complete the reset process again to ensure your credentials are current and functioning properly.

How to Reset Your Password

To reset your FASS password, visit www.hud.gov/reac or navigate directly to the password reset screen in HUD’s Secure Systems portal.

You will need the following information to complete the reset:

  • User ID
  • Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Mother’s maiden name
  • Your first and last name

Once you have that information ready, the process should be straightforward.

What If You Missed the March 31 Deadline?

HUD understands that the system issues may have made it impossible for some users to file their Annual Financial Statements by the March 31 deadline. Their guidance is clear:

1. Make every reasonable effort to file accurate financials as soon as possible.
2. If filing by the deadline was not possible due to system access issues, you may request an extension by contacting your assigned Account Executive — but only *after* March 31.

This is an important distinction: extension requests should go through your Account Executive, not through REAC-TAC directly.

Key Takeaways

  • System Status — Accounts reactivated; passwords reset
  • Password Reset Info — www.hud.gov/reac
  • Info Needed to Reset — User ID, Last 4 SSN, Mother’s maiden name, Full name
  • Missed the deadline? — Contact your Account Executive after March 31 to request an extension
