About seven years ago, Haleigh Preisendorfer was tending to trees at a nursery rather than US Housing Consultants’ team of traveling inspectors.
Then she started a family.
“I had my daughter, and I had been working 10-hour shifts six days a week,” she says, “and it just wasn’t going to work for me anymore. I thought after being with a company for 11 years, they’d be a little bit more flexible about it.”
Well, they weren’t.
“[My daughter] had had a lot of double ear infections and I just needed to take care of her,” Preisendorfer says. “That was kind of frowned upon. They said they needed me, and I said, ‘Look, she needs me more’.”
So Haleigh started her job search.
Haleigh says she was a little fearful about changing jobs. She didn’t have the kind of administrative experience that would help her land a job that would provide her with opportunities and a good work/life balance. But she persisted, applying where she thought she might fit in, and it paid off. A call to interview with US Housing Consultants.
“I came in for the interview and when it was over I thought I completely bombed it, if I’m completely honest,” she says. “Then I got a call a few hours later with the offer and I gladly accepted it.”
After a time as REAC coordinator, Preisendorfer became a Client Services Coordinator. She spends her time booking travel for US Housing Consultants inspectors and others who travel. She also ensures that each NSPIRE inspection is invoiced properly and that inspectors are prepared with an inspection profile for the site they’re about to visit.
She loves the work, she says, and the people she works with.
“I enjoy everybody and, not to pick favorites, but I love the team that I work with, especially,” she says. “We all have to work together, and we do it as such a great team. And I love the idea of what we do here at US Housing, the fact that we are going onsite to make it safer for the residents. That’s huge.”
“Everybody here is really positive and has a passion for what we do,” Preisendorfer continues. “And I admire that so much.”
Oh, a few years ago, Preisendorfer had given birth to her son and was on maternity leave. She and her husband were working to expand their house and, of course, money is needed to do that …
“So, I said to them I think it would be wise for me to come back in, you know, start a little bit early,” she said. “And they said no, no, you’re going to enjoy those six weeks with him and every mom deserves that.”
And, unlike her experience at the nursery, that’s tree-mendous!
For Preisendorfer, the work itself is great. But what makes her job situation close to perfect is a company culture that allows for flexibility in all aspects – from work-from-home to family leave and other benefits like comprehensive insurance – and supports all employees, regardless of position.
“This company has proven to me that they are willing to work with everybody on any problem, any issue you have,” she says.
