April is National Fair Housing Month! This year, we commemorate the 56th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful.
In April, US Housing Consultants is offering two Fair Housing Webinars that will teach you the importance of Fair Housing from a mission and everyday compliance perspective.
“Fair housing training is so vital and important for housing professionals and maintenance professionals alike,” says US Housing Consultants’ Vice President of Compliance, Amanda Lee Gross, “that’s why we put together these two webinars in April. We hope to bring vital training on fair housing and combined with practical experience from people who have worked in the industry for decades.”
On April 8, we’re offering a three-hour webinar, led by renowned trainer Gary Kirkman, on the fundamentals of Fair Housing. Gary will break down prohibited acts and define protected classes.
Gary will also cover much more than technical explanations and the history of Fair Housing. He will break down the rules and show how these laws impact management professionals. Gary will demonstrate fair housing rules and laws by giving practical examples and exercises.
This three-hour fair housing webinar is designed to help affordable housing professionals better understand the importance of the Fair Housing Act. Whether you are new to fair housing or need a refresher course, this webinar will explain it.
April 8 WebinarOn April 22, we’re offering a companion course for Maintenance Professionals.
As we know, maintenance professionals play a critical role in ensuring the success of a multi-family housing property. While most maintenance professionals receive training on maintaining the asset, Fair Housing training is often overlooked for these professionals.
While maintenance staff may not process applications or accept rent, they definitely interact with residents and applicants. As vital players on the property management team, maintenance staff need to be equipped with information and guidance to ensure that their actions never result in discrimination.
Randy McCall will begin the webinar with an overview of the Fair Housing Act before focusing on areas specifically applicable to maintenance professionals. Randy will include proactive measures that can be taken when entering apartments, interacting with residents, evaluating work order policies and procedures, and dealing with reasonable modifications.
